English I - SyllabusThe English I course offers incoming freshmen an introduction to various genres of literature such as short stories, poems, plays, and novels, through an exploration of thematic units. In addition to reading challenging works, students will also learn how to approach and execute the traditional five paragraph essay.Honors American Literature - SyllabusThis course will provide an intensive introduction to significant works in American literature spanning the genres of fiction, drama, poetry, and prose. While designed to increase students' knowledge of the major periods of American literature, this course will also focus intently on expanding their ability to read and think critically. Additionally, students will develop their ability to express themselves effectively in writing.Women in Literature - SyllabusThis one semester course will focus on women writers, primarily from the 20th century, and how they express themselves in fiction, poetry, and autobiography. Critical reading in different genres will allow students to understand where these women writers fit into the canon of American and British literature and to see how their creations differ from more mainstream fiction in theme, characterization, technique, symbolism, and subject matter. Reading assignments as well as analytical writing assignments will be regular components of this course.
