Introduction to Drama -Syllabus
Students read and examine four plays beginning with the origins of theater in ancient Greece and end with modern dramatic material. They read authors such as, but not limited to: Sophocles, Shakespeare, Moliere & Williams. Students will work with sound and movement technique that examines physical leads and alignment, vocal tone and projection technique, designed to create an ensemble capable of telling a story through the dramatic medium. Classes will touch upon concept and character analysis. Students will perform their own original work for their mid year exam; and perform scenes from literature studied for their final exam. By the end of the year, students will be able to carry on their own and support within an ensemble, dramatic material.
Drama II & III: Solo Performance- Syllabus
This course is designed to strengthen each performer’s skill as a storyteller. Beginning with the legends and originators of solo art continued through modern solo work, students will discover the evolution of both the written word and physical performance as an individual. Units will include the study, analysis, and impact of solo art throughout the 21st Century. Students will complete the semester having performed an original piece with multiple characters. By utilizing the techniques learned, students will gain the physical and vocal ability to carry a performance on their own.
