Dear Alumnae, Parents and Friends of Immaculate Heart,
Since 1906, Immaculate Heart High School has educated young women.
We celebrate a rich heritage in the knowledge that many of our earliest graduates were pioneers in fields rarely open to women. Now virtually 100% of our students go on to college immediately after graduation, often to some of the most prestigious in the country.
Equally important, our students enjoy a high school experience that addresses their individual uniqueness and nurtures their belief in themselves and in their seemingly unlimited potential. Students are immersed in a rigorous curriculum that demands the academic discipline necessary for success in college and beyond. The school promotes integrity and competence; leadership and service. The school creates great liturgies, often to honor Mary, the mother of Jesus, and the great women of faith in the Gospel tradition. In the midst of a huge metropolis, the school's beautiful hillside campus provides an aesthetically appealing environment in which women can thrive.
Unquestionably, Immaculate Heart is a woman's school.
Now nearly 9,000 graduates later, Immaculate Heart High School is celebrating-celebrating her 100th birthday—celebrating a century of much loved traditions-celebrating the thousands of alumnae, parents, teachers and friends who are a part of her great history.
Certainly, it is a time to reflect proudly on her past. But more imporantly, for those who have been touched by the Immaculate Heart experience, it is a time to ensure her future as a center for education of young women in an increasingly complex and challenging world.
Immaculate Heart is launching a major effort to secure the future by creating a Centennial Fund to meet current and future needs—needs that tuition alone cannot cover if we are to continue to be affordable for the broad spectrum of students whom we have historically attracted.
And so with great pride in her first 100 years, and with vision for a vibrant second century, I appeal to you to celebrate this milestone in Immaculate Heart's history by investing in her future. I do like birthdays! And when birthday gifts reflect our shared beliefs about the education of the minds and hearts of young women, I like birthdays even more!
Sincerely Yours,
Ruth Anne Murray, IHM
