The All-Girls School Advantage

Research shows that girls think, interact, display leadership, and make decisions differently than boys. At Immaculate Heart, we focus on teaching girls to be confident and self-assured in their seemingly unlimited potential. For generations, our students distinguish themselves by their intellectual curiosity, their compassion and courage, and their desire to make positive contributions in the world.

Steeped in Learning

Students of all girls’ schools report:
  • Having higher aspirations and greater motivation;
  • Being challenged to achieve more;
  • Engaging more actively in the learning process;
  • Participating in activities that prepare them for the world outside of school;
  • Feeling more comfortable being themselves and expressing their ideas;
  • Showing greater gains on core academic and life skills;
  • and Being and feeling more supported in their endeavors.

In a recent commission by the National Coalition of Girls’ Schools, Dr. Linda Sax and colleagues looked at the annual, nationwide study of the renowned UCLA Higher Education Research Freshman Survey of students entering their first year of college.

Women graduates of all girls’ schools exhibit:
  • Higher academic engagement and a tendency to outscore their coed counterparts on the SAT
  • Higher levels of academic self-confidence in their writing and public speaking abilities
  • Greater confidence in their mathematical and computer abilities
  • Increased tendency to pursue careers in engineering (three times more likely than their coed counterparts)
  • Higher participation in student groups in college and greater political engagement
