Carla Cotton, Academic Counselor

Carla Cotton
What advice would you give to students looking at Immaculate Heart?
I am a proud panda graduate! Immaculate Heart is a special place that fosters academic excellence, leadership and service. At Immaculate Heart, faculty and staff members care for every student every day.

How did you know you wanted to be a counselor?
I am strongly committed to empowering, motivating and helping young women develop as they plan their career. As an academic counselor, I take pride in providing each student with compassion and care in the manner that I received as a student at Immaculate Heart myself. I want to instill in students the knowledge that I did it and they can too! I knew I wanted to help people at an early age. I admire my mom, who is also an educator. She taught me the value of caring for others and I decided that a great way to help others was to follow in her footsteps.

What has been your favorite place to travel?
One of my favorite travel excursions was to the US St. Thomas Virgin Island. The scenic views from the Blackbeard Castle are breathtaking; the people are friendly; the spas are “spa-riffic;” the food is fantastic; and, of course, a girl could lose her mind shopping in the beachside boutiques.

A Catholic, independent college preparatory school for girls in grades 6 through 12, Immaculate Heart has been located on a beautiful hillside property in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles since our founding by the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1906. We celebrate more than a century of nurturing the spiritual, intellectual, social and moral development of students as they distinguish themselves as women of great heart and right conscience.
