Wild About Meghan & Harry

Immaculate Heart High School & Middle School extend best wishes to alumna Meghan Markle on her engagement to His Royal Highness, Prince Harry!
Acknowledging the excitement of Markle’s official engagement to Britain’s prince, Immaculate Heart President Maureen Diekmann also praised Markle’s philanthropic work and humanitarian efforts.

“Over 10,000 women of great heart and right conscience have graduated from Immaculate Heart – and we are proud to count Meghan Markle, Class of 1999, among that number,” she said in prepared remarks.

"As a global ambassador for World Vision Canada, Markle has campaigned for clean, safe drinking water. Additionally, as the UN Women’s Advocate for Political Participation & Leadership, she has spoken up for women’s rights and gender equality,” Diekmann said.
A successful television actress, Markle is still an ambassador for the United Nations’ UN Women organization, and she has traveled to Rwanda for the Clean Water Campaign. She has also worked as an advocate with the United National Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. For her 2015 speech at the UN, given on International Women’s Day, she opened her address by stating, “I am proud to be a woman and feminist.”
Markle attended both Immaculate Heart High School and Middle School. During her high school years, Markle performed in theatrical productions at both Immaculate Heart and Loyola High School. Additionally, during her senior year, she was selected to serve as a student leader for the senior class Kairos Retreat, a coveted role typically reserved for students known for their empathy as well as their abilities to listen and guide students in reflective conversations during the four-day retreat.
Many IH students expressed their excitement about the upcoming marriage, including Mia Speier, the high school’s student body president. Speier said she was most impressed with Markle as a “strong” woman and model humanitarian. “The fact that she has walked through our hallways here and is an advocate for women is very inspiring,” Speier said.

An independent, Catholic, college preparatory school for girls in grades 6 through 12, Immaculate Heart has been located on a beautiful hillside property in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles since our founding by the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1906. We celebrate more than a century of nurturing the spiritual, intellectual, social and moral development of students as they distinguish themselves as women of great heart and right conscience.
