The study of a foreign language is an ongoing experience and a continuing acquisition of communication proficiency. Language learning provides new experiences, expanding the student’s horizon at each level. In today’s world, the student needs the freedom and opportunity to express herself in more than one language, thus giving her a greater knowledge and understanding of other people and their cultures. Such understanding develops the student’s awareness of an ever-increasing global interdependence. In addition, the ability to speak another language is often a required skill of positions in government, education, entertainment, business, medicine, law and research. Furthermore, the study of another language expands the student’s understanding of her own language and cultural heritage, thereby enabling her to recognize and value her own uniqueness.
